UND 3, Montana 1
MISSOULA, Mont. - Senior Nikki Husfeldt dished out 49 assists to break the school record for career assists in a 3-1 win over host Montana Friday night in Big Sky Conference action.
The senior’s 36th assist of the night pushed her past former standout Holly Welter (4,695) for the top spot in the UND record books.
Husfeldt helped set up new weapon freshman Faith Dooley for a career-high 18 kills in the win to keep UND unbeaten in league play (15-5, 3-0 Big Sky).
Montana (2-13, 2-1), who lost its first 12 matches of the season but started the league campaign 2-0, came out strong in defending its home court.
Sophomore Chelsea Moser had her first career double-double with 11 kills and 10 total blocks. Anna Pioske and Lexi Robinson each contributed eight kills in the win while Robinson added 17 digs and McKenzie Hart charted 18 digs for North Dakota.
UND will play at Montana State at 8 tonight.
Idaho State 1, UND 0
POCATELLO, Idaho - UND fell to 0-2 in the Big Sky Conference on Friday with its loss against the Bengals.
“I was very pleased with the way we played today,” UND coach Matt Kellogg said. “We talked all week about battling for 90 minutes and working for each other and that’s what we did. We created more chances than we have been and limited the dangerous chances ISU was able to produce. The challenge to our young team is to do this again on Sunday against a talented Weber State team.”
UND held Idaho State off the scoreboard for the first 85 minutes, but the Bengals’ Amanda Ellsworth finally broke the stalemate netting the game’s lone goal in the 86th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen made a total of 13 saves in the contest, while ISU’s Sheridan Hapsic made three.
