Potulny signs with Hershey

Former Grand Forks Red River and Minnesota standout Ryan Potulny has signed an American Hockey League contract with the Hershey Bears.

Potulny played for Hershey each of the last two years, racking up 106 points in 127 games.

The Grand Forks native signed a contract in the Russia superleague earlier this year, but that was voided before he ever played a game. Potulny sustained an injury at the start of the season.

Potulny is in his eighth season as a pro. He has played 126 NHL games.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Loyd receives Big Sky nod

OGDEN, Utah -- UND sophomore forward Mia Loyd has been named the Big Sky Conference player of the week.

Loyd, a sophomore from Minneapolis, recorded career bests and a pair of double-doubles in two UND wins last week. Loyd averaged 19.5 points and 18 rebounds as North Dakota beat Mayville State and Northern Colorado.

Loyd scored a then-career-high 19 points and piled up 22 rebounds in the win over the Comets. She out-rebounded MSU 13-12 in the first half alone en route to the second-most rebounds by a UND player ever.

She followed that with a career-best 20 points and added 14 rebounds against Northern Colorado. For the week, she was a perfect 13-for-13 on foul shots and she has now connected on 16 straight free throw opportunities.

Huff earns Big Sky honor

OGDEN, Utah -- UND's Troy Huff collected his second Big Sky Player of the Week honor of the season and fifth of his career Monday.

Huff, who is the first league player to earn multiple honors this season, scored 30 points and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 77-70 loss to South Dakota State on Saturday.

Huff made 10-of-14 shots from the floor, was 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line. His four 3-pointers matched a season-high. Huff leads the Big Sky and ranks 12th in the nation in scoring with an average of 22.7 points per game.

• Women's basketball: Bemidji State senior center Kate Warmack, of East Grand Forks, was named the NSIC player of the week. Warmack posted 24 points and 17 rebounds in a win over Minnesota-Crookston.
