EGF's Jones finishes third
MINNEAPOLIS -- East Grand Forks Senior High's Jessamy Jones finished third at the Minnesota state Class A singles tournament on Friday at the Reed Sweatt Tennis Complex.
In the semifinals, Jones lost to sophomore Sonya Das of St. Paul Academy 6-2, 6-3. Das went on to lose to Amber Washington of Mounds Park Academy in the championship match.
Das beat Jones in last year's third-place match at state.

"It was a goal to finish better at state this year than last year," Senior High coach Jim Wyatt said. "When we saw the draw, we thought there was a good chance she could be in a position to do that. It was just a matter of going out and taking care of business. Jessamy did today."
Jones, whose loss to Das was her first defeat of the year, beat Annandale's Kaytlin Kuefler in the third-place match 6-2, 6-4.
"That probably wasn't her prettiest match of the year," Wyatt said. "Both players play similar style. Both were a little tight. There was the pressure of the situation and a couple of long days of tennis. It was kind of a battle of wills as much as anything. There were lots of balls in play. Jessamy was more patient and consistent. She got a couple of big shots at big times."
