LOCAL CLIPBOARD: Green Wave boys golf reach Section 8AA

CROOKSTON - Nate Deziel’s 77 led East Grand Forks Senior High to a third-place finish Tuesday in the Minnesota Section 8AA north subsection meet. Senior High qualifies for next week’s Section 8AA meet in Walker.

Crookston won the meet with a 314, followed by Roseau at 315. Senior High finished at 324 to round out the qualifiers from the subsection.

Individually, Deziel finished in a tie for fourth. Diezel is an eighth-grader. Senior High ninth-grader Bauer Brown shot a 78 and finished in a tie for sixth.

“We’ve had an average season but our eighth- and ninth-graders stepped up for us today,” said Senior High coach Jay Frydenlund. “We get to golf another day. We’re happy.”

Crookston wins

FERTILE, Minn. - Crookston’s Ally Tiedemann fired an 84 on Tuesday to lead Crookston to the Minnesota Section 8A north subsection title. The Pirates finished with a 382.

Hawley finished at 390 and Roseau at 395. The top three teams in the subsection advance to next week’s Section 8A meet in Walker.

East Grand Forks Senior High finished fourth at 397.

Senior High golfers Kelsey Schlenk (90), Nicole Schlenk (99) and Mak Langei (101) individually advanced to the section meet.

Softball

Loss ends Eagles’ season

TWIN VALLEY, Minn. - The East Grand Forks Sacred Heart softball team cruised to a 16-0 victory over Lake of the Woods before its season was ended in a 5-0 loss to Norman County in the Minnesota Section 8A tournament on Tuesday.

“Everything we hit, we hit hard,” said Eagles coach Mike Marek of the first game. “The first game we couldn’t miss. The second game we hit it right at them, made a couple of errors and couldn’t recover.”

Sacred Heart finished its season 11-10.

Senior High’s season ends

THIEF RIVER FALLS - The East Grand Forks Senior High softball team defeated Fergus Falls 10-3 to stay alive in the Section 8AA tournament on Tuesday, but was downed by Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 5-3 later in the day to bring their season to an end.

Against Fergus Falls, Karly Nelson picked up the win on the mound and scored four runs. Jayden Boushey went 2-for-4 at the plate against D-G-F. The Green Wave finished the season 13-6.

  • Baseball: Badger-Greenbush-Middle River pitcher Aaron Dostal pitched a no-hitter to end East Grand Forks Sacred Heart’s season in the first round of the Minnesota Section 8A tournament. Dostal had 14 strikeouts in leading the Gators to a 3-0 win.
