Fans will have an opportunity to be in Baxter Arena for the National College Hockey Conference Pod after all.

In cardboard cutout form, that is.

The NCHC is offering an opportunity for fans to purchase cardboard cutouts of themselves, family members or even pets for the event, which will open the league's hockey season from Dec. 1-20.

The cutouts cost $50. The NCHC says 20 percent of the profits will go to the NCHC student-athlete scholarship initiative.

There are some stipulations.

No advertising will be permitted, only NCHC-branded apparel is allowed and no names or photos are allowed without the permission of the identifying person.

The NCHC Pod is scheduled to feature 40 total games in 20 days. Each team will play 10 times. UND opens on Dec. 2 against Miami University.

Earlier this week, NCHC commissioner Josh Fenton confirmed the event will be played behind closed doors. No tickets will be available for purchase for the public. Family and friends also will not be allowed to attend.

Cardboard cutouts have been a popular way to fill empty stands in North American sports.

The company that's handling the NCHC cutouts also does them for pro teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions, college football programs like Michigan and Ohio State, and college basketball programs like Kentucky and Arizona.
