The games have stopped with no certain date of a resumption.

In this vacuum of sports, we're reminded of how crazy a time March is in this region. Whether it be the North Dakota or Minnesota state basketball tournaments or the NCAA Hockey Tournament starting up, there has always been big moments for us to watch and document.

We will try and do that over the next couple of weeks and looking back at some special games and moments.

March 25th, 2011 - The Perham boys basketball team grabbed the attention of the region that winter after one of its players, Zach Gabbard collapsed during a game in January from cardiac arrest. Gabbard had multiple surgeries in the days and weeks that followed, and watched from his hospital bed as his teammates won the first section championship in school history. The Yellowjackets earned a berth at the state tournament and Gabbard surprised his team by showing up in the locker room before the state quarterfinals.

This night Gabbard was recognized before the game and received a standing ovation from the packed house at Target Center. The Yellowjackets responded, rallying from a deficit to beat Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 45-41 in double overtime in the state semifinals to earn a berth in the state championship game. Perham improved to 30-1 on the season and went on to win the state title the next day.

March 25th, 2007 - The best rivalry in college hockey was renewed on a Sunday night in Denver, Colorado when the University of North Dakota met up with the University of Minnesota for a berth at the Frozen Four. The stars on each side were too many to count. Jonathan Toews, TJ Oshie, Ryan Duncan and Blake Wheeler. The two teams met the week before in the WCHA Final Five championship game, which was won by the Gophers the week before on a phenomenal Wheeler goal in overtime. The then Fighting Sioux would have the last laugh on this night.

After Minnesota forced overtime with a third period goal, Chris Porter took the puck and scored on a wraparound goal 9:43 into overtime to send UND back to the Frozen Four for a third consecutive year. They would fall to Boston College in St. Louis two weeks later.
