First period

UND 1, Denver 0 -- Shane Pinto (Jacob Bernard-Docker, Colton Poolman) 6:21. UND jumps out to the early lead when Bernard-Docker holds a puck along the boards, just a couple of inches from the blue line and sends it to the top of the crease, where Pinto fights off a check by Denver defenseman Ian Mitchell to re-direct it home for his 14th goal of the season.

Second period

UND 1, Denver 1 -- Bobby Brink (Ian Mitchell, Emilio Pettersen) 3:17 (pp). UND takes three penalties in the opening 22 minutes and the third comes back to bite the Fighting Hawks. Brink rockets a one-timer from the left circle to even the game.

UND 2, Denver 1 -- Matt Kiersted (Jordan Kawaguchi, Shane Pinto) 7:36 (pp). UND's top power-play unit stays red hot. Kawaguchi has the puck in the right circle, draws the defender to him, then leaves a pass for Kiersted at the point. Kiersted rifles a shot through a Westin Michaud screen to give UND the lead.

UND 3, Denver 1 -- Collin Adams (Grant Mismash, Jordan Kawaguchi) 16:36. UND gets rewarded for some of its tenacity in this game. Kawaguchi knocks the puck off the stick of a Pioneer player and sends it to the net, where Cooley fails to cover it. Mismash is skating past and pokes it out top the top of the crease, where Adams puts it in for No. 9 on the season.

Third period

UND 4, Denver 1 -- Jacob Bernard-Docker (Collin Adams) 11:14 (pp). UND's second power-play unit gets on the board when Adams steals a pass from Denver defenseman Michael Davies and feeds a wide open Bernard-Docker cutting down the slot. JBD picks his spot and finishes.

Pregame comments

Defensemen Matt Kiersted and Gabe Bast are in the lineup, as expected, for UND. Kiersted missed the last two games. Gavin Hain is out with a lower-body injury he sustained in UND's last game 13 days ago. Harrison Blaisdell is taking Hain's spot on the "shutdown line," however, Denver spreads out its scoring (its top-three scoring forwards are all on different lines), so the shutdown might not be as critical as some other series where a single line is more of a focus. Peter Thome gets his fourth-straight start. He enters the game with a 4-0-1 record and a .928 save percentage. Devin Cooley is getting the start for Denver. Cooley had been starting Saturday nights the last three weeks. UND hasn't seen him yet this season. Freshman Magnus Chrona started both games in Denver. Hank Crone and Jack Doremus are the scratches on the trip for the Pioneers.
