UND will wear throwback jerseys for an exhibition game in December.
To honor the 60-year anniversary of UND's first NCAA national championship in 1959, the Fighting Hawks will wear the same jerseys as that team during a Dec. 29 exhibition game against the U.S. Under-18 Team.
The jerseys say "Sioux" diagonally across the front and have the player numbers in the upper left.
The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. Proceeds will benefit the Sioux Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarship assistance to Native American students.
The 1958-59 team will later be recognized during an on-ice intermission ceremony during the Jan. 12 contest against Colorado College, with members of that championship squad in attendance.
UND went 20-10-1 under second-year head coach Bob May and defeated Michigan State 4-3 in overtime in the title game at RPI Fieldhouse in Troy, N.Y.
Forward Reggie Morelli, whose grandson Mason currently plays at Omaha, scored the overtime winner and was named NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Ed Thomlinson (first team), Ralph “Trucker” Lyndon (second team) and Joe Poole (second team).
UND has won eight NCAA national titles all time: 1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000 and 2016.
