The Grand Forks Herald captured the general excellence award in the 2011 Minnesota Associated Press Sports Association writing, editing and design contest.
The Herald placed first in the division for newspapers with a circulation of more than 20,000. The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead finished second while the St. Cloud Times was third.
The Herald also captured first place in the special section division. Staff writer Brad Schlossman and graphic artist Bobbi Duchamp combined to produce the "No Place Like Home" section that served as a preview for the 2011-12 UND hockey season.
