A brief but heavy downpour Sunday afternoon in Grand Forks was enough to wash away the Greater Grand Forks Fair auto races for the second time in three days.

River Cities Speedway officials called off the race Sunday afternoon due to track conditions. The same happened Friday night.

There were two nights of racing scheduled as part of the Fair, but neither occurred.

Both nights were scheduled to be carried live on Midco Sports Network. On Friday, Jody Norstedt was expected to handle the play-by-play and sprint-car driver Mark Dobmeier was scheduled to make his broadcasting debut on color. Sprints, streets and Midwest Modifieds were set to race Friday.

On Sunday, Norstedt planned to be paired with Chris Shirek in the booth for late models, lightning sprints and Midwest Modifieds.

The next River Cities Speedway show is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 2. It is the midseason track championship.

Six days later, on July 8, Dobmeier is expected to race for the first time since suffering a significant back injury in a crash at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., more than a year ago. Dobmeier, the track's top sprint-car driver, says he will participate in the two-day Wayne Anderson Cup.

Three nights of racing have been canceled due to rain this summer -- the World of Outlaw sprint show on June 4 as well as the two Greater Grand Forks Fair races.
