EGF's Nate Deziel wins state golf title

JORDAN, Minn. -- East Grand Forks Senior High's Nate Deziel is the Minnesota state Class AA boys golf champion.

Deziel won the title by shooting a 68 on Wednesday at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, finishing the two-day event with a total of 137. He beat out Blake School's Derek Hitchner by one stroke.

Deziel, who led the event after shooting a first-day 69, opened up the second day by shooting a 32 on the front nine.

The state title caps a remarkable year for the senior.

Deziel was the medalist in 11 of 12 tournaments during the season. He won the sub-section and section tournaments before winning state. Deziel finished second in the only tournament that he didn't win.

He carried a 72.3 season average into the state meet.
