GALLOWAY, N.J. — Lexi Thompson bettered her runner-up finish at last week's U.S. Women's Open with a one-shot win over Open champ Jeongeun Lee6 of South Korea on Sunday, June 9, at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway.
Thompson, No. 4 in the Rolex Rankings, fired a 4-under 67 to finish at 12-under 201 at the Seaview Golf Club for her 11th LPGA title at the site of her first professional win nine years ago. She combatted three bogeys with five birdies and sealed the deal with an eagle at 18.
The 24-year-old Florida native started the day two strokes behind second-round leader Lee6, who stumbled on the back nine with three straight bogeys on holes 13-15. She finished with birdies at 16 and 18 to shoot 1-under 70.
Thompson took advantage of the par 5s over the three-day event, going 11 under on those including the eagle at 18 after hitting a pitching wedge from 190 yards out to set up her winning putt.
Rounding out the top five were Ally McDonald, who shot 70 to finish at 9 under and alone in third place. Sweden's Anna Nordqvist fired a 69 to finish at 7 under for fourth place, while a trio of players finished tied for fifth at 6 under, including Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn (68), China's Yu Liu (72) and Mariah Stackhouse (74).
