ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The East Grand Forks Senior High girls soccer team gets its revenge.
The Green Wave, who lost to St. Cloud Apollo in a shootout in last season's section championship, returned the favor Thursday by beating St. Cloud Apollo in a shootout in the Minnesota Section 8A title game.
The teams were tied 0-0 through regulation and two overtimes before the Green Wave scored three times in the shootout to St. Cloud Apollo's none.
"When the game went into a shootout your heart kind of sinks because of the history," Senior High coach Jessica Krog said. "But like we told the girls before the shootout, 'last year is last year.'
"It was our turn this year."

Senior High, which improved to 22-0, advances to the state tournament, which begins Wednesday or Thursday depending on seeding. It's the first time the program has advanced to the state tournament.
The state tournament quarterfinals are held at home sites of the top four teams, which are decided by a seeding process. The semifinals and finals will be held Nov. 2 and Nov. 5, respectively, in the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
Senior High's Chelsey Grassel, Francie Piche and Taylor Koberinski scored in the shootout.
Grassel is a unique shootout selection, as she is the Green Wave goalie.
"Chelsey had been bugging us all summer to let her kick in a shootout," Krog said. "You always want your first shooter to be confident."
The Green Wave, who had lost in the section title game the previous two seasons, recorded their seventh straight shutout.
