WARROAD, Minn. - Mak Langei scored the game-winning goal early in the second overtime as East Grand Forks Senior High beat Warroad 2-1 on Monday night in the semifinal round of the Minnesota Section 8A girls hockey tournament.
The win advances Senior High to Thursday night’s Section 8A championship game against Thief River Falls, which downed Park Rapids 6-0 in Monday’s first semifinal game.
Thief River Falls, the section’s top seed and No. 1-ranked team in the state, has defeated Senior High twice this season. Senior High is the No. 2 seed and No. 2-ranked team in Minnesota.
The loss ends Warroad’s streak of five straight trips to the Minnesota state Class A tournament as Section 8A champion.
Senior High scored first when Haley Mack scored a power-play goal at 13:43 of the second period. Lexi Mack recorded the assist.

Warroad tied the game at 1-1 with 10 seconds left in the second period.
Senior High improved 23-2-1 while Warroad closed out at 16-10-1.
n Thief River Falls 6, Park Rapids 0: Kora Torkelson scored two goals and added two assists to lead Thief River Falls to its win over Park Rapids in the first Section 8A semifinal game.
“I thought we came out a bit slow, but finally turned it around in the middle of the first period,” said Thief River Falls coach Corey Poole. “They played tough and their goaltender was stellar.”
Parks Rapids goalie Shania Johnson finished the night with 46 saves.
Brandi Malwitz, Madison Poole, Briana Jorde and Morgan Martel also scored for the Prowlers, ranked No. 1 in the latest Minnesota state Class A poll.
