THIEF RIVER FALLS -- In the Roseau girls hockey team's first season as a Class AA program, the Rams are headed to state.

Roseau freshman forward Ciscely Nelson had two goals and an assist to lead Roseau to a 4-2 win over Bemidji on Thursday in the championship game of the Minnesota Section 8AA tournament in Thief River Falls' Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Roseau lost last season in the Section 8A championship to Warroad. This year, both programs from northwest Minnesota will go state as Warroad defeated East Grand Forks Senior High in the Section 8A title game on Thursday.

The Rams took a 2-1 lead after the period on goals by St. Cloud State recruit Amy Olson and Nelson, who assisted on Olson's goal.

Bemidji tied it at 2 in the second period on a goal from Becca Gregg. Allie Lapp scored a first-period goal for Bemidji.

Roseau, though, accounted for all of the third-period scoring. Nelson and Adelle Murphy each scored power-play goals as the Rams pulled away.

Neither team put many shots on goal. Bemidji's Maria Thompson finished with 10 saves, while Roseau's Katie Olson had 12 stops.

Junior forward Abby Ness finished with three assists for the Rams.
