Girls basketball: Langdon holds off Midkota to reach semifinal round

DEVILS LAKE -- Langdon withstood a fourth-quarter Midkota rally Monday night to advance to the semifinal round of the North Dakota Class B Region 4 girls basketball tournament at the Devils Lake Sports Center.

DEVILS LAKE -- Langdon withstood a fourth-quarter Midkota rally Monday night to advance to the semifinal round of the North Dakota Class B Region 4 girls basketball tournament at the Devils Lake Sports Center.

Led by Breanna Mack's 18 points, the Cardinals downed Midkota 52-50 in the final quarterfinal game of the day. The Cardinals will play Carrington in tonight's semifinal round. Carrington downed Minnewaukan-Leeds 55-35 in another quarterfinal game.

Harvey and Rolla-Rock Lake also advanced to the semifinals with quarterfinal wins.

Harvey upended Munich-Starkweather 68-37, while Rolla-Rock Lake defeated New Rockford-Sheyenne 54-44.

Langdon, the top seed from District 8, improved to 14-8 while Midkota, the fourth seed from District 7, ended at 11-12.

Midkota led by two points after the first quarter but the Cardinals managed a 24-22 halftime lead. Midkota was led by Shaye Ronningen's 15 points.

Harvey 68, Munich-Starkweather 37: Harvey, the top seed from District 7, led 44-16 at halftime and rolled to the quarterfinal win. Sheyenne Schneider led the Hornets, who improved to 20-2, with 23 points, while Rachel Nyhus and Maggie Lorenz added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Munich-Starkweather, which closed out at 8-15, was led by Elise Dick's 12 points.

Rolla-Rock Lake 54, New Rockford-Sheyenne: 44: A big third quarter lifted Rolla-Lake into tonight's semifinals. The Bulldogs outscored New Rockford-Sheyenne 19-7 to take a 40-31 lead heading into the final quarter. The Rockets held a three-point halftime lead.

Rolla-Rock Lake, which improved to 18-5, received 26 points from Heather Carlson, eight more than her season average. She was the only Rolla-Rock Lake player in double figures.

New Rockford-Sheyenne, which ended its season at 13-9, received 13 points from Laura Lies and 12 from Kelsey Gisi.

Carrington 55, Minnewaukan-Leeds 35: The Cardinals scored 20 points in the first quarter and cruised to the win. Sierra Rosenau led Carrington with 18 points, while Becca Scherr added 13 for Carrington, which improved to 19-2.

Minnewaukan-Leeds, which ended at 12-11, received 17 points from Dorothia Santos.
