GF Central

Returning pitching regulars: Reller (5-2, 2.18), Eagleson (0-2, 5.79), Murphy (0-3, 6.30), Monette (3-1, 1.89).

Potential new impact players: Sr. R/INF Jaxon Kriewald, soph. P/INF Will Eagleson, soph. P/C/INF Parker Stroh.

Knights coach Gregoire says: "We have a lot of seniors, a lot of veterans. I think we'll hit pretty well. Reller, Murphy, Wright and Wyatt Eagleson are the backbone of our offense. We'll rely on being able to score runs. Reller has been pretty lights out on the mound the last couple of years. Otherwise, we have a bunch of pitchers who throw strikes and we have to play good defense behind them.''

GF Red River

Coach: Mark Varriano.

2016 record: 16-6.

Key graduation losses: Ben Carolin, Casey Schumacher, Baden Ripplinger, Jacob Knecht, Brock Montgomery, Mitch Soderberg, Mike Sandy, Carson Dennis.

Returning regulars: Jr. 1B Coby Tweten (.245), sr. INF Luke LaMoine (.291, 12 RBI), sr. INF/OF Reed Turner (.241), sr. OF Isaac Burger (.302, 13 RBI), sr. OF Jack Tannahill (.324, 10 RBI).

Returning pitching regulars: Tweten (3-0, 2.25 ERA), sr. Matt Clausen (3-0, 0.82), jr. Connor Richardson (4-1, 3.50).

Potential new impact players: Jr. C/INF Mason Salquist, sr. P/OF Daniel Pierce, fr. SS Dane Montgomery, soph. C/P Simon Murphy.

Roughriders coach Varriano says: "We'll be young at a lot of spots, especially up the middle on defense and on the mound. Hopefully, that inexperience will drive the kids to work harder. We do have some experience on the mound, but they're not overpowering types of pitchers. We'll probably play more small ball on offense and be more aggressive on the basepaths.''

EGF Senior High

Coach: Anthony Walsh.

2016 record: 17-9, Section 8AA champion, fifth at state tournament.

Key graduation losses: Cole Hammargren, Trevor Selk, Chance Borden, Donnie Musgrove, Wyatt Swanson, Braden Shea.

Returning regulars: Jr. 2B/OF Max Christiansen (.273, 8 RBI), jr. SS Alex Mushitz (.338, 22 RBI), jr. 1B Dylan Selk (.329,22 RBI), soph. C/INF Jake Hjelle (.350, 9 RBI), soph. INF Carter Beck (.250).

Returning pitching regulars: None.

Potential new impact players: Soph. P/OF Ross Corbid, soph. P/INF Victor Saucedo, soph. P/OF Cade Spencer, soph. P/INF Evan Estad, soph. C Jake Osowski.

Green Wave coach Walsh says: "That graduating class left some big holes to fill. We'll need a lot of sophomores to step in and fill voids. We'll have almost a whole new pitching staff; we're looking at 10 guys to try on the mound. We don't have a proven shutdown pitcher, so we'll have to score more runs. And we have the potential to do that. Our defense, especially in the infield, should be our strength.''

Sacred Heart

Coach: Paul Bethke.

2016 record: 16-6.

Key graduation losses: Devin Evavold, Ryan Holte, Nick Bergum, Zac Bethke, Nolan Hallaway, Riley Wavra.

Returning regulars: Soph. INF Brenden Bethke (.413, 19 RBI, 19 SB), jr. C Noah Chine (.302, 11 RBI), soph. OF Evan Sczepanski (.273).

Returning pitching regulars: Brenden Bethke (4-1, 2.16 ERA).

Potential new impact players: Soph. P Oscar Ortiz, fr. 2B Zach Larson, sr. OF Aaron Sczepanski, jr. C/3B Tanner Brundin.

Eagles coach Bethke says: "We have a lot of people competing for spots. Brenden was our No. 2 pitcher last year. He'll be fine out there. Noah, Evan and Oscar are going to have to throw a lot of innings. They did well pitching on the JV last year. They've been throwing strikes; that's the key. We should be strong up the middle with Noah, Brenden and Evan. They'll lead the offense, too.''
