BISMARCK-The Sand County Foundation, a leading voice for conservation of private land, is seeking North Dakota nominees for the Leopold Conservation Award.
Given in honor of renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, author of the influential 1949 book, "A Sand County Almanac," the award is presented in 14 states to private landowners who inspire others with their dedication to land, water and wildlife habitat management on private, working land.
Leopold in his book called for an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage. In North Dakota, the $10,000 award is presented in cooperation with the North Dakota Grazing Lands Coalition, North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts and the North Dakota Stockmen's Association.
The Wilson Family Farm of Jamestown was North Dakota's 2018 award recipient.
Nominations may be submitted on behalf of a landowner, or landowners can nominate themselves. The application is available online at https://sandcountyfoundation.org/uploads/ND-CFN-19.pdf .
