FARGO -- Heidi (Evans) Greenwood won the women’s half-marathon at the Scheels Fargo Marathon in a time of 1:20:36.

Greenwood, who lives in Cleveland, Ohio, is originally from Roseau, Minn. She won an NCAA Division II outdoor national championship in the women’s 1,500 meters in 2008 during her senior season at the University of North Dakota.

Greenwood, who has a sponsorship that allows her to run in multiple major running events around the country, thought she ran a smart race. She recently had to take two weeks of training off, dealing with hamstring issues.

“I think that’s my first time ever actually breaking the tape,” said Greenwood, who finished second in the full Fargo Marathon in 2011. “I always get second. … It’s just a cool atmosphere coming in, finishing in the tunnel.”

Greenwood liked the indoor start with the temperature outside in the low-30s at the start of the race.

“I thought it was really nice,” Greenwood said. “They should do it again, in my opinion.”
