UND football coach Bubba Schweigert has finished fourth in the voting for the Stats Perform Eddie Robinson Award, which goes to the top coach in the FCS.

VMI's Scott Wachenheim won the honor, followed by Sam Houston's K.C. Keeler and Delaware's Danny Rocco.

Schweigert received one first-place vote.

VMI won the Southern Conference title outright -- its first conference championship since 1977. The Keydets hadn't had a winning record since moving to FCS in 1982 and had a 25-game losing streak as recently as 2018.

Schweigert, a two-time AFCA Coach of the Region for Region 5 at both the Division I (2016) and Division II (2005) levels, has secured his second finalist nomination for the award after leading the Fighting Hawks to new heights in the 2020-21 season.

The Zeeland, N.D., native helped UND to its second conference championship at the Division I level this past year, becoming the first team in Missouri Valley Football Conference history to capture the league crown in its first year in the conference since the league's inception in 1985.

He also led UND on an upward climb in the national polls, watching the Fighting Hawks go from an unranked start to the season to as high as a No. 2 ranking, the highest held during the program's Division I era (2008).

The Fighting Hawks also notched its second-straight perfect regular season at home.

UND was in the FCS quarterfinals for the first time in program history, falling to James Madison last Sunday in Harrisonburg, Va. The Hawks have been to the FCS playoffs now three times in the past five years.
