The UND football team started on the right foot in its first game in the Missouri Valley Football Conference on Saturday.

On Monday, two Fighting Hawks were honored for their part in UND's 44-21 win over then-No. 24 Southern Illinois.

UND linebacker Devon Krzanowski was named the defensive player of the week, while captain Nathan Nguon was named the offensive lineman of the week.

Krzanowski, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound Fond du Lac, Wis., native, had two tackles for less, recovered UND's third forced fumble of the first half and took it for a 36-yard score.

The St. Cloud State transfer helped UND force five turnovers, which led to 27 points. It was the most turnovers forced by the UND defense since a 2016 win against Montana State.
