The UND football team is no longer flying under the radar.
After a convincing 44-21 win over then-No. 24 Southern Illinois last Saturday, the Fighting Hawks have gone from unranked to No. 14 in the STATS FCS poll.
UND forced five turnovers and won the rushing battle 229-90 in knocking off the visiting Salukis during UND's first Missouri Valley Football Conference game.
The Fighting Hawks now have a Top 15 battle coming up this weekend, as South Dakota State comes to town for a noon kickoff Saturday at the Alerus Center.
The Jackrabbits, who started the season No. 5 in the poll, have moved to No. 3 after a win over previous-No. 3 Northern Iowa. The Jacks won 24-20.
Five Valley Football teams are ranked in the poll, and all five are in the Top 14. North Dakota State, winners of an FCS-record 39-straight games, was a unanimous No. 1 choice. SDSU (3), UNI (5), Illinois State (7) and UND (14) also represent the league in this week’s poll. Southern Illinois and Youngstown State are among those receiving votes.
