CHICAGO — Hillsboro-Central Valley senior Oscar Benson has been named Gatorade football player of the year for North Dakota, the Gatorade Company announced Friday, Dec. 6.
The award is given to the top high school player in the state, and also takes into account academic achievement and strong character on and off the football field.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Benson rushed for 1,361 yards and 17 touchdowns on 179 carries to help lead the Burros (12-0) to the Class 2A state football championship. The running back/linebacker also had 51 tackles, including 12 for a loss, with five pass breakups.
Benson has committed to North Dakota State to play football. Benson, who was named Class 2A senior player of the year, has maintained a 3.99 grade-point average.
