1. Nicholls State has strong senior class

Nicholls State's senior class is the winningest group in school history with 30 career wins.

The class is 17-4 at home in those four years, including two playoff games.

Nicholls State hosted the highest attendance of all first round FCS playoff games in 2017 and was third in 2018.

2. UND isn't the first Dakota school to travel to Thibodaux lately

UND won't be the first team from the Dakotas to travel to Nicholls State for a first round FCS playoff game lately.

In 2017, South Dakota played at Nicholls State and won 38-31.

Nicholls State fumbled at the goal line in the final seconds.

The game was played in front of 9,612 fans.

Former USD quarterback Chris Streveler, who recently helped the Winnipeg Blue Bombers win the CFL's Grey Cup, threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns.

3. The Colonels play on Manning Field at John L. Guidry Stadium

The stadium seats 10,500 and is named in honor of former state representative who was instrumental in establishment of Francis T. Nicholls Junior College, which later became Nicholls State.

The playing surface is named Manning Field after the Manning family (Peyton, Eli, Cooper and Archie) because the family holds the annual Manning Passing Academy football camp at the facility.

4. Thibodaux hosts the Manning Passing Academy

UND offensive coordinator Danny Freund is familiar with the home of Nicholls State as a participant of the Manning Passing Academy, a four-day football clinic that features several current and former NFL and college football players.

The camp was originally founded in 1996 by Archie Manning at Tulane University and has also been held at Southeastern Louisiana. In 2005, the camp moved to the campus of Nicholls State.

Former UND quarterback Keaton Studsrud participated in the camp.

5. Nicholls is named after former governor

Nicholls State was originally named Francis T. Nicholls Junior College after former Louisiana governer and member of the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Nicholls fought in the Civil War, where he lost his left arm, left foot and eye.

6. Former MLB player Darryl Hamilton is notable alum

Former MLB outfielder Darryl Hamilton is a Nicholls State alum.

Hamilton played from the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies and New York Mets from 1988 to 2001.

7. Nicholls State first fielded a team in 1972

Nicholls State is a member of the Southland Conference but has only been in the league since 1991.

The Colonels played in the Gulf South Conference in NCAA Division II from 1972 to 1979. They started NCAA Division I play in 1980.

8. Thibodaux is 60 miles from New Orleans

Thibodaux, population 14,567, is 60 miles from New Orleans and sits along the banks of the Bayou Lafourche, a 106-mile bayou that flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

The original name of the town was Thibodauxville in honor of local planter Henry Schuyler Thibodaux. The town name was changed to Thibodaux in 1918.
