The winter storm hitting Grand Forks has left a mark on local sports schedules, but the UND football team is still hoping to escape for Saturday's 2:05 p.m. game against Idaho State in Pocatello.
The Fighting Hawks were originally scheduled to depart on a charter flight out of Grand Forks on Friday at 4 p.m.
Mid-morning on Friday, however, UND decided to fly out of Bemidji, Minn., where a plan had been set up days ahead of time in case the team couldn't fly out from Grand Forks.
The team and staff bused from Grand Forks to Bemidji at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, departing from Memorial Stadium. The hope is to depart from Bemidji by 7 p.m.
Much of the winter storm to hit the Red River Valley on Thursday and Friday left snow in North Dakota but just rain in parts of Minnesota, allowing a better path of departure for the charter flight.
