Fargo North football team holds off Red River
Fargo North held on for a home win over Grand Forks Red River on Friday night, a loss that likely knocked the Roughriders out of postseason contention.
Peyton Fisher scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter while Blayne Anderson scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Spartans.
Red River's scoring came on a Logan Huus 25-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Red River dropped to 3-4 while North improved to 3-4.
"We had plenty of chances," said Red River coach Vyrn Muir. "In the second half, we did too many things to hurt ourselves."
Nathan Schumacher led the Riders, rushing for 126 yards on 10 carries. Connor Arel added 58 yards on 10 attempts.
Caleb Fritel led North with 104 yards on 18 rushing attempts.
The Riders, who entered the game with a number of injuries, will take on West Fargo Sheyenne next week.
"We're not firing on all cylinders like we were earlier this season," said Muir.
