UND loses two, adds one: UND safety Tamas Stewart and linebacker Ray Haas are no longer with the team, Fighting Hawks coach Bubba Schweigert said Friday.

Stewart had to retire due to lingering injuries, while Haas left for personal reasons.

"We fully support Ray's decision and wish him the best as he deals with his future," Schweigert said.

UND also announced the addition of junior college transfer Terrell Jennings, a defensive back from Santa Barbara City College.

Jennings prepped at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, Colo.

"Terrell has the speed and athleticism to develop into an excellent cornerback at our level and he will compete for playing time immediately when he joins our program this summer," Schweigert said.

UND, Southern Utah split: North Dakota got off to a good start against Southern Utah in the second game to salvage a split Friday in a Big Sky Conference doubleheader.

UND scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 10-8 win over the Thunderbirds in the nightcap. Southern Utah won the opener 3-0.

Marina Marzolino went 4-for-5 to lead the Fighting Hawks. Kaylin VanDomelen and Jailene Carpio each added two hits for UND.

The split left UND 6-2 in the Big Sky and 20-19 overall. The teams conclude their series today in Cedar City, Utah.
