MINOT -- Harle Andel came off the bench to break a tie here Saturday, leading West Fargo past Grand Forks Red River 5-2 in the championship game of the North Dakota high school fastpitch softball tournament.
With two Packers on base and two out in the top of the sixth inning, Andel lined a double to deep center field, driving in both baserunners to break a 2-2 tie. The Packers added a run in the seventh.
West Fargo was ahead 2-0, but Chelsea Carlson's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth tied the score. Red River managed only three hits off Packers pitcher Kacie Johnson, with Catherine Dorsher and Emily Lundby also getting singles.
West Fargo won its 13th straight state title, the first 11 as a club sport and the last two as an NDHSAA-sanctioned sport.
Five area players earned all-state honors -- Carlson, Dorsher, Grand Forks Central's Michaela Johnson, Grafton's Asya Nelson and Devils Lake's Autumn Wang. Red River's Mike Bisenius was named coach of the year in the state.
