FARGO -- Eric Loeffler made his move earlier than he wanted Saturday morning, but his altered strategy resulted in victory.
“Something came over me and I kind of went for it,” said the 38-year-old Loeffler of Fargo.
Loeffler took first place in the men’s half-marathon at the Scheels Fargo Marathon with a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, 35.2 seconds.
“I was very happy with the time,” said Loeffler, who plans to run the full Grandma’s Marathon next month. “It’s far-and-away faster than I’ve ever run here.”
Loeffler also won the 2013 Fargo half-marathon in a time of 1:07:11.

Loeffler said he made his move around eight or nine miles before the course hit downtown Fargo. Heading into the race, he planned to wait until around Mile 10 to try to pull into the lead.
“It was earlier than I really planned to go,” Loeffler said. “Once I made the break, I had to keep going.”
