Grand Forks will be home to a new Expedition League summer baseball team in the summer of 2022 and league administrators want local input on naming the team.

This summer, Grand Forks' Kraft Field hosted the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks in a one-year partnership due to the U.S.-Canada border closing.

The Wheat City team will return to Brandon, Man., next summer.

League officials ask those interested in submitting suggestions for a new team name to email grandforks2022@gmail.com.

The league was founded in 2017 and had 12 teams in 2021.

The Whiskey Jacks are 21-37 this summer. The team has been led offensively by former East Grand Forks standout and current Minnesota Crookston player Jake Hjelle, who has six home runs and 37 runs batted in. Former Grand Forks high school players Parker Stroh and Coby Tweten have also played for the Whiskey Jacks this summer.
