EDUCATION NOTES: UMC hosts Ag Arama

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at UMC will host Ag Arama Friday and Saturday in the University Teaching and Outreach Center located on the north edge of campus.

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at UMC will host Ag Arama Friday and Saturday in the University Teaching and Outreach Center located on the north edge of campus.

Events kick off with a chili feed sponsored by the Animal Science Association from 5 to 8 p.m. for $5 per person. Ag Arama continues Saturday with contests in agronomy, animal science, horticulture, agricultural business and natural resources. There will also be animal showmanship contests and an agricultural industries show featuring some of the latest in agricultural equipment. The weekend concludes with a social at the Crookston American Legion from 5:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Ag Arama 2014 is dedicated to long-time faculty member and alumna Susan Jacobson. She was recognized with the Outstanding Alumni Award during homecoming last fall.

• The Library of Congress is currently accepting nominations from college and graduate students interested in participating in the Library of Congress Junior Fellows Summer Intern program. The 10-week program runs from May 27 through early August in Washington, D.C. Individuals interested in applying should submit their applications by Wednesday, which can be found at 1.usa.gov/1gW3Q4g.
