There will soon be a new play-by-play voice calling UND athletic games on television.
Dan Hammer is leaving Midco Sports Network to accept a job as a talk radio show host on KFGO in Fargo, multiple sources have confirmed to the Herald.
It is possible Hammer will still finish this season calling the remaining men’s hockey, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games that are scheduled for Midco Sports Network, but that still appears to be undecided.
Hammer will take the 2-5 p.m. KFGO time slot previously occupied by Mike McFeely, who left the station last month to return to WDAY and Forum Communications. An official announcement is expected soon.
Hammer has served as the primary play-by-play voice for Midco Sports Network events in Grand Forks for the past three-and-a-half years, featuring UND men’s and women’s hockey, football, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball games.

He also has hosted the weekly men’s hockey show, UND Hockey with Brad Berry, and UND Sports Extra.
Next year is the final year of UND’s five-year contract with Midco Sports Network. UND and Midco signed the deal in 2012 for $1 million.
Midco Sports Network hired Hammer away from Valley News Live in 2012 after landing the UND broadcasting rights. Other candidates for the job were thought to be longtime WDAZ sports anchor Pat Sweeney and longtime UND hockey radio play-by-play man Tim Hennessy.
Hammer previously spent four years with KFGO and sister station 740 The Fan in Fargo.
