FARGO -- Fargo Marathon officials have made an adjustment to the 26.2-mile course for the fifth time in six years.
The key change this year is that the route for the Saturday marathon is east of University Drive, except for the finish area by the Fargodome. Past courses have crossed University Drive, creating long traffic jams.
The route also goes deeper into neighboring Moorhead, Minn., than in past years.
Organizers also are making other changes. In past years, the lead marathon runners ran into the back of the pack of the half marathon runners, creating potential for a logjam. This year's half marathon is starting half an hour earlier to address that issue.
The Fargo Marathon has been held since 2005.
