UND 11, Weber State 4

Ogden, Utah -- UND won its first Big Sky Conference game of the season Saturday when it defeated Weber State.

"The team responded well to the tough day yesterday with a crucial win today," UND coach Eric Oakley said. "We took an early lead and then answered any time they got close. It was a great team effort. Nice to get the first Big Sky win in program history."

North Dakota scored its first two runs of the game in the first inning. Junior D Jantzer hit a homerun for the first run of the game.

Starting pitcher Caralyn Chewning received the win, pitching 3.2 innings. She was relieved by Emma Gronseth, who gave up three hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Jantzer went 3-for-4 on the day and Chewning was 2-for-2 at the plate.

UND improved to 8-19 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

MEN'S TENNIS

UND 4, Northern Arizona 3

UND earned its first Big Sky Conference win in program history Saturday with a victory over Northern Arizona at Grand Forks' Choice Health and Fitness Center.

"Sometimes it's just a matter of being opportunistic and winning the tight matches," UND coach Tom Wynne said. "I am very pleased with how we played."

Northern Arizona started the match off strong by earning the doubles point and winning all three matches.

North Dakota rallied back in singles play and took four of the six matches.

Josh Oothoudt of Minot, Connor Oberle and Grant Bakke of Bismarck and Will Biernat picked up singles wins.

BRIEFLY

• Women's tennis: Northern Arizona beat UND 6-1 on Saturday at Choice Health and Fitness Center. "We played well today. We didn't get much production out of the bottom of our lineup, but the top of our lineup played well," UND coach Tom Wynne said. "We are getting closer, we just didn't get it done." In singles action, Grand Forks native Callie Ronkowski had the lone victory for UND.
