Wichita State 6, UND 1
WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State scored in each of the first four innings en route to its win against UND on Tuesday.
UND reliever Patrick Riewer threw four innings of one-hit baseball.
"WSU is a nice club; they threw some nice arms at us," UND coach Jeff Dodson said. "We had some opportunities today but they kept us off balance and pitched really well. That's how you win ball games. I thought we pitched well, too, as Tyler Ruemmele had his best outing of the year so far and Riewer pitched really well. Overall, it was good for our guys to compete against that kind of club."
WSU (10-5) loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning with no outs but managed only one run as Ruemmele worked out of the jam. The Shockers would score a pair in each of the next two frames and got a solo homer in the fourth to stake themselves to a 6-0 advantage through four innings.
Kris Kwak had two of UND's three hits.
The teams play again today at 3 p.m.
UND lands Iowa player
UND has announced that 6-foot guard Madison Kramer will join North Dakota next season. Kramer, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, recently finished her prep career as her team's leader in assists. She helped lead her Cedar Rapids Washington team to the state tournament quarterfinals.
"Madison is a strong player that wants to be at UND," UND coach Travis Brewster said. "She visited the campus and really enjoyed her time with our players. She is not afraid of hard work and comes from a solid high school program coached by Frank Howell."
Kramer averaged 6.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as Washington finished with a 17-7 record. Her 81 assists led the team this past season. She earned all-Mississippi Valley honorable mention (Metro only) accolades as a senior.
