Additionally, each participant is welcome to attend the Jr. Champions party on the southeast concourse after the clinic. There will be candy, prizes and activities, and it will be the first chance to sign-up for the 2014-15 Jr. Champions. Memberships, which previously cost $25, will be completely free starting in 2014-15.

The kids clinic is open to all children in grades eight and under. Check-in will begin at 11 a.m. at Door 1 of the Alerus Center. Parents will be required to fill out a release form and waiver of liability. Releases and waivers are available only on the day of the event and parents must sign in person.

UND signs player from Brainerd

UND baseball coach Jeff Dodson announced Wednesday that Drew Sannes has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for North Dakota in 2014. Sannes, a 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher and infielder, comes to UND through the Minnesota Baseball Academy’s Blizzard Elite connection - joining the likes of earlier commit Zach Heaser and current freshman Zach Muckenhirn and junior Andrew Thome.

“To say that we’re thrilled to sign Drew Sannes is an understatement,” Dodson said. “His upside is very, very high, and we’re thrilled that he’s going to be reaching it in a UND uniform. He is going to get the opportunity to be a two-way player for us, which will allow him to be on the field every day.”

Sannes also is a two-time all-conference honoree at Brainerd High School. He is in his third year as a starter at Brainerd. Last season, Sannes hit .386 with a team-high 29 RBI, six doubles and a pair of home runs. A year prior, he drove in 15 runs with a .400 batting average.

For the past three years, however, Sannes has been a member of the Blizzard Elite program, based in Vadnais Heights. The Blizzard played in tournaments in locales such as Las Vegas, Florida, California, Arizona, Iowa and Georgia. The Brainerd High School senior said the academy’s program helped him “a ton.”
