UND’s opener moves to Thursday
The date of UND’s season opener has changed.
UND’s matchup with San Jose State now will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28, in Spartan Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The game originally had been scheduled for Aug. 30.
“I’m excited to have the season kick off with the home opener on a Thursday in lieu of the traditional Saturday because I anticipate a great response from our student body,” said San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher. “Playing on that Thursday coincides with school starting (Aug. 25) and we’ll have a great chance to have a great crowd. Last year, we had a great student turnout with our home opener on a Thursday against Sacramento State.”

The game also will be the first for Bubba Schweigert as UND’s coach.

Player collapses,
game postponed
Dallas Stars center Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench Monday during the first period of the team’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He was hospitalized in stable condition, the Stars announced.
The game was postponed after a lengthy delay.
The Stars issued a statement that read, “He was tended to by medical personnel immediately and was conscious upon being transferred to a local hospital for further evaluation.”

Later, the Stars posted on their Twitter feed: “Rich Peverley remains conscious and continues to be treated. We'll make updates available on his condition as they become available.”
Peverley, 31, has a history of irregular heartbeats, missing several games this season due to the problem. He underwent a medical procedure in September intended to correct the issue.

Miles receives honor
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Nebraska coach Tim Miles was named Big Ten coach of the year Monday after a vote of league coaches. Michigan coach John Beilein was tabbed coach of the year by the media covering the league.
Miles is a former Mayville State and North Dakota State coach.
Under the guidance of Miles, Nebraska posted a record of 11-7 in conference play, giving the Cornhuskers the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in this week’s Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament. With an overall record of 19-11, Nebraska is one victory shy of its first 20-win season since 2008.
