Grand Forks Red River's Ashley Knecht hit a three-pointer to force overtime, and the Roughriders toughed out a win in the extra period Tuesday.
Ellie Ripplinger led Red River with 17 points, including the game-winning free throw in overtime. Knecht (11 points) and Shelby Bommersbach (10 points) also reached double digits for the Riders.
"The game was close the whole time," Red River coach Kent Ripplinger said. "Both sides played good defense."
EGF Senior High 4, OT
Jenna Ulberg scored the game-winning goal with 4:20 remaining in overtime to give Moorhead a victory over East Grand Forks Senior High on Tuesday night.
Erica Ulberg and Tori Davis each tallied three points to pace Moorhead.
"It was disappointing giving up that goal late in the third," said Senior High head coach Jim Scanlan. "It is tough getting scored on late."
The Green Wave had a balanced scoring attack with four different players scoring goals.
GF Central 5, Devils Lake 2
Ty Kennedy scored a hat trick to lead Grand Forks Central over Devils Lake on Tuesday night.
"We came out and battled hard in the first period," said Central coach Tony Bina. "We responded well from their early goal."
Tyler Haug and Blake Zabinski also scored goals in the Knights win.
Twins Caravan to stop in GF
The 2012 Minnesota Twins Winter Caravan will make a stop in Grand Forks today.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, pitchers Glen Perkins and Brian Duensing, coach Joe Vavra and new play-by-play announcer Cory Provus will make a public appearance tonight at the Wild Hog Restaurant.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Admission is $10. The ticket includes admission and a bar-b-que buffet.
The caravan also will make stops today in Thief River Falls and in Warroad, Minn.
n Girls basketball: Abbie Mercil scored 18 points to lead Warren-Alvarado-Oslo to a 68-33 win over East Grand Forks Sacred Heart on Tuesday night. Sarah Durand also scored 16 points and Angie Erickson pitched in 13. Stacy Remer had 13 points to lead the Eagles.
n Boys basketball: Grand Forks Red River flew out of the gate, knocking down 10 three-pointers in the first half en route to its 74-58 victory over Fargo North on Tuesday. "Our team's plan was to come out strong," Red River coach Jason Gregory said. "We have been coming out a little flat lately, and it was good to see us improve tonight." Mac Kroeplin led visiting Red River with 24 points, and Mack Arvidson added 20 points.
n Girls basketball: Kelsey Schlenk poured in 21 points to lead East Grand Forks Senior High past Kittson County Central 55-35 in Hallock on Tuesday. Schlenk hit six treys.
n Girls basketball: Rachel Weir had 17 points and Sarah Jacobson 13 to lead Fargo Shanley past visiting Grand Forks Central 48-43 on Tuesday. Taylor Hammer's 18 points led Central. "It was a very physical game,'' Central coach Brent Hintz said. "We struggled to find a consistent rhythm on offense. And Shanley had 10 blocked shots; that made things difficult for us."
n Boys basketball: Hawley opened with a 20-0 run and went on to beat host East Grand Forks Senior High 64-41 on Tuesday. Jim Warmack's 11 points led the Green Wave.
n Wrestling: Grand Forks Central scored a pair of wins Tuesday, beating Wahpeton 49-21 and Devils Lake 63-18. "We knew the Wahpeton dual would be vital in our pursuit of a spot in the state dual tournament and the whole team stepped up to the challenge,'' Central coach Matt Berglund said.
n Wrestling: Bryce Burnside, Cole Mehring, Cole Alexander, Darren Crissler and Xander Mairs got pins to lead Fargo Davies to a 36-34 win over Grand Forks Red River on Tuesday. Sean Murphy, Billy Rerick and Evan Moser got pins for Red River.
n Wrestling: Alex Yanish got three wins at 132 pounds for East Grand Forks Senior High-Sacred Heart in a triangular in Roseau on Tuesday. Senior High-Sacred Heart went 0-3 in the duals, losing to Walker-Hackensack 53-19, Detroit Lakes 56-18 and Roseau 40-24.
n Boys hockey: Zach Yon scored three goals to lead Roseau to a 5-3 victory over East Grand Forks Senior High on Tuesday night. Kolton Aubol had two goals for the Wave.
