The Firebirds were making their second straight state tournament appearance.
Dickinson 1, Fargo South 0: Stephen Laylock authored a perfect ending for the Dickinson High School baseball team.
The junior right-hander flirted with perfection Saturday in the championship. Pitching one day after he threw the first three innings of a semifinal win over Devils Lake, Laylock threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Fargo South Jack Brown Stadium.
He was perfect through 3Zc innings, allowed only two baserunners and kept the Bruins' batters at bay all night long. Only two balls made it out of the infield.
Laylock admitted he was a little sore Saturday morning.
"Adrenaline and ibuprofen really helped me out," Laylock said. "I was feeling no pain."
Laylock worked efficiently, throwing 81 pitches, walking one and striking out six.
Dickinson took the lead in the first inning. Eric Seiler walked with one out and went to third on Cole Frenzel's single down the left-field line. Laylock followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 1-0.
Minot 2, Fargo Shanley 1: Darin Back's RBI single brought Derek Sommerville with the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning as Minot beat Fargo Shanley for third place.
Ryan Bollinger went 3-for-3 and scored the game's first run on a two-out RBI double by Brett Fiddler in the fourth.
Fargo Shanley tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth as Kyle Ulstad came home on a Magicians error.
Josh Oothoudt had two hits for Minot.
Alex Fornshell and Bollinger combined on a two-hitter for Minot. Fornshell limited Shanley to two hits over six-plus innings. Bollinger came on in the bottom of the seventh after Mike Jones led off with a walk and picked up a save.
Bollinger got out of the jam when Kyle Ulstad popped up a bunt to third baseman Oothoudt, who threw to first to double off Jones.

Shawn Egge had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Coyotes. Jake Axtman had two hits and scored two runs.
