Openings remain for the 28th annual Cats Incredible catfish tournament, set for Aug. 1-2 on the Red River in East Grand Forks.

The tournament is open to 125 two-person teams, and the entry fee is $230 per team. LaFave Park below Cabela’s in East Grand Forks is tournament headquarters.

First place is $5,000, second place is $3,000 and third place is $1,500 based on a full tournament field.

This year’s Cats Incredible gets underway at 5 p.m. July 31 when the beer garden opens. A mandatory rules meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Fishing hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1 and Aug. 2, and tournament boundaries are from Riverside Dam south to the Thompson Bridge. Pre-fishing will be allowed until 5 p.m. July 31. According to the East Grand Forks Association of Firefighters Local 3423, which is in its third year of running the tournament, the entry deadline has been extended to 7 p.m. July 31 or as long as openings remain.

Besides the fishing tournament, Cats Incredible will have inflatable games for kids from noon to 5 p.m. each day of competition, and the beer garden will open at 11 a.m. Also on Aug. 2, plans are in the works to have a car show hosted by Eastside Rides, with a People’s Choice award for the best-looking vehicle.

The tournament wraps up with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Aug. 2.
