Two-time UND captain Chay Genoway will be an Olympian.

Genoway was named to Canada's Olympic hockey team Thursday and will represent the back-to-back gold medalists at the 2018 PyeongChang games in South Korea next month.

Genoway, of Morden, Man., played at UND from 2006-11 and served as captain for his final two seasons. Genoway earned All-American honors twice, leading UND to the NCAA Frozen Four as a senior.

Genoway currently plays for Lada Togliatti (Finland) in the KHL.

UND's previous Canadian Olympians are Jonathan Toews (2010, 2014), Ed Belfour (2002), Greg Johnson (1994), Bob Joyce (1988), Gord Sherven (1988), Dave Tippett (1984), James Patrick (1984), Dave Donnelly (1984), Roger Lamoureux (1980) and Kevin Maxwell (1980). Toews won two golds and Belfour won one. Johnson earned a silver.

The men's Olympic Games begin on Feb. 14 and end with a gold-medal game on Feb. 25.

Canada has won the last two Olympic gold medals -- 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi.

This will be the first time that NHL players have not been used in the Olympic Games since 1994, when Sweden topped Canada for gold.

The U.S. and Canadian men's and women's rosters have already been announced. Former UND stars Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux are on the U.S. team.
