The thought of winter might be enough to make most people cringe at this time of year, but two Grand Forks-area ice fishing enthusiasts are already working to promote their passion on behalf of a new, club-based Ice Federation that is offering a series of four tournaments this winter in eastern North Dakota.

Josh Clawson and Allan Sitzer, who bill themselves as "Hardwater Xtreme" on the professional ice fishing circuit, will be overseeing the Ice Federation's club tournaments Dec. 7 at McVille Dam, Jan. 11 at Larimore Dam, Jan. 25 at Homme Dam and Feb. 15 at North Golden Lake.

Clawson, 29, and Sitzer, 26, have fished tournaments on the North American Ice Fishing Circuit the past three years and last winter fished the inaugural season of the Minnesota-based Team Extreme Ice Fishing Tournaments circuit.

The Ice Federation is an offshoot of the Team Extreme organization, and Clawson said he and Sitzer, as Hardwater Xtreme, are the North Dakota representatives for the Ice Federation. Sitzer also is a national director for the Ice Federation.

As part of the Ice Federation, clubs formed in states across the Upper Midwest will compete for points to qualify for state, then national championships. In North Dakota, the Ice Federation has clubs in Grand Forks and Minot.
