The last time the East Grand Forks Senior High Green Wave took on Minnesota Section 8A opponent Lake of the Woods, the Wave outshot the Bears 31-8 in a 4-0 victory in mid-January.
In the quarterfinals of the Section 8A tournament on Thursday, Senior High defeated Lake of the Woods in similar dominating fashion - this time outshooting the opponent 55-8 in a 10-0 rout of the Bears at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.
It was a balanced effort for East Grand Forks, who had eight different players score. Senior High, the No. 1-ranked team in Minnesota Class A, will meet Detroit Lakes on Saturday in the section semifinals.
The first period saw the Green Wave jump to a 4-0 lead on goals from Dixon Bowen, Colton Poolman, Reed Corbid, and Eddie Eades.

After the first, shots on goal were an astounding 34-1 in favor of Senior High.
“I thought we came out the right way,” said Senior High coach Tyler Palmiscno. “We played at our speed and at our intensity in the first period.”
In the second, the offense picked up right where it left off when Brandon Loven gave the Green Wave a 5-0 lead just :23 seconds into the period.
Following the Brandon Loven goal, Grant Loven and Tanner Tweten scored to make the score 7-0, before Bowen added his second goal of the night to make it 8-0.
With just over a minute remaining in the period, sophomore defenseman Trevor Selk scored his second goal of the season to put the Green Wave up 9-0 at the second intermission.
After two periods the shots on goal were 51-6.
Bowen finished off a hat-trick at 1:40 of the third period, rounding out the Green Wave scoring at 10-0.
“We did it the right way in the first period-and-a-half,” said Palmiscno. “We capitalized on our opportunities, moving the puck well and using each other.

“We’ve got to make sure we continue to get better. We’ve got to get back at it and have a good practice. Our goal all year has been to take it one step at a time. Our thought right now is to get ready for that first period on Saturday.”
