Grand Forks Central weathered a back-and-forth battle with Devils Lake on Tuesday night to win its season opener 68-58 at the Knights’ gym.

Grand Forks Central and Devils Lake played before an audience of junior varsity teammates and parents due to COVID-19 regulations.

“For an opening game, we played OK” said Central coach Dan Carlson. “We struggled a little bit at the start of the second half. But had a nice push at the end of the game.”

Devils Lake was within four points for most of the first half thanks to multiple breakaways by guard Hayden Hofstad, who finished with 15 points.

The Knights led 34-24 at the half before Devils Lake roared back in the second half to keep pace.
