They've won the title on the baseball diamond. They've won the title on the football field. But where they haven't done it, is on the basketball court.

For the first time in school history, they'll get a chance to lift another state title.

The Thompson boy's basketball team will make its debut North Dakota Class B boys state basketball tournament after knocking off two-time defending champions Hillsboro-Central Valley on Thursday by a score of 59-53 in the Region 2 championship game.

"We've done the other ones, but this is a completely different feeling," said senior Marcus Hughes. "We're going to reminisce about this in the future. This is history."

The Tommies were eliminated from state tournament contention two years prior in the same game against the Burros.

Thompson heads into Minot as the one seed and will take on Ellendale on Thursday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. on WDAY.
