UND outgoing forward Julia Fleecs was named The Summit League's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Thursday.
Fleecs is the first Fighting Hawk to earn the distinction since its inception in 1990-91.
The award is determined by a vote of the league's faculty athletic representatives.
South Dakota's Jessie Sullivan (track & field) was named The Summit League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A two-time Academic All-Summit League and All-Summit League selection, Fleecs was recently selected by UND as its candidate for NCAA Woman of the Year and was a recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
She is seeking to become North Dakota's third nomination from the league office in the last four years for the award, joining Tamara Merseli (2018) and Katie Moller (2019).
Along with her Academic All-Summit League honors, Fleecs was a Big Sky Academic Honor Roll member as a freshman, and earned Summit League Honor Roll, and Commissioners List honor three times as a Fighting Hawk. She was also named UND's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the 2021 Night of Champions. In addition to her academics, she volunteered over 100 hours of community service during her time at UND.
On the court, Fleecs was among the top scorers and rebounders in The Summit League over the last two seasons, scoring 12.2 points per game as a junior and 13.3 points per outing as a senior, placing her ninth and 10th in league scoring the past two years, respectively.
During her career, Fleecs scored 20-plus points 11 times and reached the 30-point plateau once, scoring a career-high 33 points at Western Illinois as a sophomore. She also accounted for nine double-doubles during her career, including six during her senior campaign.
