The Gophers men’s basketball community raised $15,280 in a GoFundMe campaign to support a memorial for Tayra McFarlane, the late mother of Gophers senior guard Dupree McBrayer.

The fundraising effort, which ended Saturday, was supported by 173 people, which raised an average of $88.

“Tears Of Joy Coming down My Face Right Now,” McBrayer tweeted Saturday. “Thank You Gopher Nation, My Family And I Appreciate You All!”

McFarlane, of New York City, died Monday after a battle with cancer. McBrayer played for the Gophers about 48 hours later, contributing a key 3-pointer in a comeback 85-78 win over No. 24 Nebraska on Wednesday.

“Thanks to all the generous gopher fans for helping us reach our goal,” Minnesota coach Richard Pitino tweeted Saturday. “That’s why this community is special!”
