Northern Colorado rallies to down UND in Big Sky game
GREELEY, Colo.-- UND had Northern Colorado, the Big Sky Conference league leader, on the ropes at halftime.
But Northern Colorado outscored UND 27-10 in the third quarter to bounce back from a 10-point halftime deficit en route to a 51-45 win Saturday afternoon at Bank of Colorado Arena.
A month ago, UND trailed by 14 at halftime only to out-score the Bears 25-8 in the third quarter to win.
Lexi Klabo led UND with 16 points and eight rebounds, surpassing 1,000 career points in the process. She becomes the 36th UND player to reach that plateau and just the 14th to do so before her senior season.
"Too many turnovers tonight, but the effort was there and the tenacity has got to keep getting better," UND coach Travis Brewster said. "The big thing about the game was that it was good for us to play on the road one final time to get us prepared for Reno (and the Big Sky Conference tournament)."
UND had 21 turnovers and shot 35 percent. The Bears, led by Savannah Smith's 17 points, shot 33 percent.
Outside of Klabo, no other UND player reached double figures. Grace Sawatzke added eight points for the Hawks, who dropped to 5-11 in the league and 12-15 overall. UNC improved to 13-3 and 21-6.
UND will close the regular season at home next week, against Sacramento State on Wednesday before taking on Portland State on Friday.
UND again played without starting forward Fallyn Freije, who injured her ankle a couple of weeks ago.
