A big night from Zach Carolin and a three-run third inning carried the Grand Forks Blue Devils to an 8-6 win over Detroit Lakes in a nine-inning, non-conference game Thursday night at Kraft Field.

The Blue Devils, the summer baseball program playing under the Senior Babe Ruth oversight, improved to 7-2 on the season-opening homestand.

Carolin, a right-hander who has signed to play at Minnesota-Crookston, struck out nine. He was also 2-for-4 at the plate.

Grand Forks center fielder Parker Monette was 3-for-3.

The Blue Devils now hit the road for the first time this season. They play at Dickinson on Wednesday and at Williston on Thursday.
