Elli Strand had 16 kills and four blocks to lead Grand Forks Red River to a 27-29, 25-27, 25-20, 25-10, 15-9 win over Valley City on Thursday.
"Valley City came out really strong and played very well," said Red River assistant coach Jason Heydt. "We started to move our feet more in the third set and got more aggressive."

Mari Rustebakke added 45 assists for the Riders. Claire Olson led Valley City with ten kills and six blocks.
The win improved Red River to 8-2 in the EDC. Red River will play Fargo Davies on Tuesday.
Stephen-Argyle 3,
EGF Sacred Heart 0
Carly Safranksi had 11 kills to lead Stephen-Argyle to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-20 win over East Grand Forks Sacred Heart on Thursday.
"We dug ourselves a big hole early on that was hard to come back from," said Sacred Heart coach Emily Vonasek. "Our servers and defense did play well tonight. We are still looking to improve."
Stacy Remer led the Eagles with 13 kills. Michele Remer provided seven blocks for Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart dropped to 6-7 and will play East Grand Forks Senior High on Tuesday.

GIRLS SWIMMING
Central wins
Alexis Ljunggren took first in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke to help lead Grand Forks Central over Fargo South 117-69 on Thursday night. Central's Madi Remer took first in diving.
Grand Forks Red River took first in the 200 freestyle relay in the double dual against South. The Rider team consisted of Lauryn MacLoed, Gretchen Schreiner, Sam Behm and Nicole Jorde.

Mayville's Berry
reaches milestone
Mayville State baseball coach Scott Berry reached a milestone earlier this week when he won his 900th game at the school.

Mayville defeated Valley City State 9-1 on Sunday at Scott Berry Field, a win that gave the Comets' coach his 900th victory.
Mayville State and other baseball teams in the new North Star Athletic Association are allowed to play baseball in the fall and again in the spring.
Berry picked up win No. 901 later Sunday when Mayville downed Presentation College 12-1.
Now in his 33rd season at Mayville, Berry has a career record of 901-505, making him the 10th winningest coach in NAIA baseball. He has led Mayville to 21 conference titles and 23 postseason appearances -- 20 in the past 22 seasons.
Berry took over at Mayville State in 1982 from legendary coach Al Meyer. Berry also played baseball at Mayville State and became Meyer's assistant in 1981.
